Planning an LED wall in five steps

What to know before planning
Seven points decide whether an LED wall ends up fitting its site — and all seven can be settled before the first enquiry.
How do I find the right pixel pitch?
The right pixel pitch follows from the shortest viewing distance, not from the size of the wall. Pixel pitch is the distance between two pixels in millimetres — the smaller the number, the finer the image and the more elaborate the wall. As a rule of thumb, pixels merge for the eye from a viewing distance in metres matching the pitch number. Choosing finer than necessary means paying for resolution nobody perceives from the actual distance. The configurator therefore rates the chosen series against the distance you set and suggests a coarser or finer one where it makes sense.
Why can't I pick the wall dimensions freely?
Because an LED wall is assembled from identically sized modules — like tiles. Only dimensions that add up from whole modules are possible. The configurator rounds your input to the nearest achievable size and shows how many modules the surface consists of. That is not a limitation of the software but of the construction itself: there is no half module.
How many circuits does an LED wall need?
An LED wall does not run off a single socket but off several separately protected circuits. How many depends on surface area and construction type: the configurator calculates average and maximum power draw and derives the number of circuits from it. Sizing is always based on maximum draw at a fully white image, never on the average. Pass this number to your electrical planner early — it determines how many supply lines have to be run to the wall.
Why does the result show a heat load?
Because the wall releases the power it draws into the room as heat. The figure given in BTU/h is exactly what ventilation or air-conditioning planning needs in order to size the cooling capacity. In enclosed spaces such as control rooms, meeting rooms or window recesses this value belongs in the plan early, because ventilation can only be retrofitted through construction work.
When does an LED wall need a structural check?
Whenever a wall, ceiling or substructure carries the load — that is, for wall mounting, flush installation, suspension, façade and curtain mounting. The basis for the check is the load per metre of wall width, which the configurator reports alongside the total weight. We handle the certification itself during planning; there is nothing for you to prepare.
What do front service and rear service mean?
The service route defines which side a module is replaced from during maintenance. With front service, modules are removed from the front and no clearance is needed behind the wall — which is what makes flush installation and walls mounted directly against solid masonry possible in the first place. With rear service, access is from behind, so walkable clearance behind the wall has to be planned for; the configurator states the clearance required for each mounting type.
How many signal lines run to the wall?
As many as the surface needs in data sections — the configurator reports the count as signal ports. Each port feeds part of the surface, which directly determines how many outputs the sending card and video processor must have. Knowing that number early means choosing the control technology to suit the wall, rather than the wall to suit existing hardware.

Frequently asked questions about LED wall planning
What size should my LED wall be?
Size depends on the available surface and the viewing distance. As a guide: the further away your audience stands, the larger the surface has to be for content to stay legible. Because an LED wall is built from identical modules, only dimensions made up of whole modules are possible — the configurator automatically rounds your input to the nearest achievable size.
What is pixel pitch and which one do I need?
Pixel pitch is the distance between two pixels in millimetres. P2.5 means there is a pixel every 2.5 mm. Rule of thumb: from a viewing distance in metres matching the pitch number, pixels merge into a closed image. At 4 m, P3.9 to P4 makes sense; at 1.5 m, rather P1.5. A finer pitch than necessary costs money without a visible benefit.
What is a mesh or transparent LED?
A mesh LED is a lightweight LED net with a large pixel pitch — typically P25 to P31 — that you can see through. It weighs a fraction of a solid LED wall, lets light and wind pass and drapes softly like a curtain. It is used on glass façades, in atriums, as a stage curtain and anywhere see-through has to be preserved.
How long does it take from enquiry to a finished LED wall?
The configurator calculates the timeframe for your specific configuration and breaks it down into quotation, planning, production, factory test, delivery, installation and commissioning. Larger surfaces and mounting types requiring construction work — such as flush mounting or façade installation — extend the schedule accordingly.
What power supply does an LED wall need?
That depends on surface area and construction type. The configurator calculates average and maximum power draw, derives the current from it and states how many protected circuits are required. Sizing is always based on maximum draw at a fully white image, not on the average.
Does the wall need a structural check?

Is the configuration binding?
