Frequently asked questions about indoor displays
These answers refer to the smartenic indoor range.
What screen size makes sense for an indoor display?
It depends on reading distance. In a shop aisle, at a reception desk or in a restaurant people read from one to two metres, and a screen from 32 inches upwards carries price lists and menus at that range. The larger the room and the further away the viewer, the bigger the diagonal has to be and the less text belongs on it. The SMARTENIC Vision Indoor comes in 32, 43 and 55 inches.
What is the difference between Full HD and 4K on a digital signage display?
4K UHD has four times the pixel count of Full HD. Up close that keeps small type, price tables and floor plans sharp. From a distance and with large-format imagery the difference is barely visible. On the SMARTENIC Vision Indoor the 32-inch model is Full HD, while the 43-inch and 55-inch models are 4K UHD.
What does 24/7 operation mean for a display?
The panels are specified for continuous duty rather than office hours. A consumer television is built for a few hours a day; a screen in a hotel foyer, a retail branch or a gym keeps running overnight and through the weekend. The smartenic indoor range is rated for 24/7 operation.
Can an indoor display be used in a shop window?
Only to a limited extent. Indoor panels operate at roughly 300 to 500 nits. Behind glass in daylight an image like that is washed out and effectively unreadable from the street. Shop windows call for the high-brightness range instead: the SMARTENIC Vision HB delivers 2,500 nits and stays legible on the glass even in daylight.
How is an indoor display mounted and connected?
The indoor displays are designed for wall mounting. You need a load-bearing wall surface, a bracket and a socket at mounting height. Network connectivity runs over Wi-Fi or LAN. The device is then registered in SMARTENIC Control and assigned its playlist. Where no wall is free or drilling is not allowed, a freestanding stele is the alternative.
How much does an indoor display cost?
Price on request. The cost drivers are: diagonal, Full HD or 4K, touch versus playback only, quantity, and whether delivery, mounting, training and the CMS licence are part of the quote. A single screen for one restaurant is costed differently from twenty screens for a retail chain with central content management. Describe the configuration and we will give you the price.
